While on my way to pick Jade up from daycare, they called and told us she has been "projectile vomiting". Now for me, this phrase invokes a slightly more...powered version, something more Linda Blair-like, that what actually happened.

What actually happened is that she completely juiced Ms. Helenas shirt and apron. Twice. But only from point blank range.

And mommy too--after a brief "miscommunication" of the pediatricians instructions.

She's home today but feeling better. Daddy is still running a fever though, so he's home today too.

Jade has started eating solids. Solids is baby talk for liquified veggies and very thin cereal. So far on the menu--rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, squash, and peas.

Been procastinating a lot about blogging ...

Jade's growing like a weed - she's had her 4 month appointment. Her stats are 16 lbs, and 24 inches. She loves to bat her mobile with the hanging toys and now she rolls around like crazy. She's figured out how to roll onto her tummy which is interesting because usually it's the other way around. Could this be a sign that she will be walking soon? I know, I know - she has to learn how to crawl first.

I have tons of pictures including the obligatory naked baby picture which I will post soon.

In the meantime, it's been a rough week - last Sunday night, she developed a cold and has been sniffing, coughing, phlegmy, snotty, mucusy, all week and hasn't been sleeping very well at home. That then equates to us not sleeping well either and now I think both me and Donnie have picked up her cold.

I've stocked up today on supplies - lozenges, kleenex and vitamin C drops. Hopefully it won't last long and I don't want to pass it back to Jade, who is slowly getting better.

It has been a steady rhythm of feeding time, playtime, naptime, tummy time, cuddle time, quiet time, bedtime...
The common factor here is time. Or not enough of it. I caught myself this morning asking, "when was the last time I had a shower?" Not that I was wildly funky, just surprised that I couldn't answer the question with any degree of certainty.

It seems that the little indicators of development creep in. Someone mentions that she tried to reach for a toy during tummy time. Was it reaching or just that spastic extending of the arms? Smiling or just gas? Did she just roll over on purpose or just flop around?

I DO know that she has started making more sounds. She's starting push away or pull towards her mouth with her hands. Not with any amount of dexterity, but the message is clear enough. Her head is getting steadier ever week, and she can prop herself up on her arms. I got what I believe to be a reactive social smile the other day! Of course it must have been an anomoly as we haven't been able to duplicate the phenomenon since.

Baby steps. If I look back 3 months ago to see what she was capable of then compared to know, it's just WOW. I'm still waiting for her to make a leap that just blows me away. Until then, we'll keep singing and playing.

Oh my goodness my baby's 3 months old now!!

We've been working on tummy time and grab my finger (GRAB! NOT PULL! GRAB!) time, and giggle time :).

Being back at work has been pretty ok - getting back into the swing of things and also learning new things have been good. I do miss spending time with Jade but I have to admit, I missed work. Plus Jade has been doing so good at the day care - they are really good to her there and call her Miss Jade all time. The girls L-O-V-E her!

We tend to keep the lights low for middle-of-the-night feedings and as I was putting some powder on her bottom, I could not see that she decided to make a poopie until I actually *felt* it on my hand. Then she proceeded to pass water too. So I had to change diaper, clothes, everything! I'm amazed I got her back to sleep with all the excitement.....

We're just about done with our free trial, and I'm anxious for the Jade Experience to get more interactive.

Last night I was putting her to bed, but she was still awake and looking around the dark and quiet room. I started to sing to her, and as soon as I made noise, her eyes quit wandering, snapped to, and stared right at me.

And in spite of being sick, she's taking the treatment quite well. All the nostril sucking and saline spray get's her a little cranky, but not much!

Super Anxious Hyper Mom.... Donnie brought home a cold from work and passed it to me and Jade. Jade didn't start showing symptoms till Saturday night, and it totally freaked me out hearing her congestion and stuffiness. I was fearing the worse - ear infections, fever, croup, bronchitis!

Sunday Donnie went out and picked up the supplies - humidifier, saline drops, tissues. The humidifier helped the most, especially while she slept during the night. By Monday morning, she is sounding a lot better and more able to breath. She still has a bit of a cough but that comes up when she's crying or there's a lot of drainage...

Called the doc this morning just in case...

She's a month old.....

Time passes so quickly... she now weighs 10 lbs 0.5 oz. :D And the crossed-eye look is normal for infants :P She can only focus about 8 inches in front of her nose..

Where has the time gone? Next, we'll be repainting her room completely black to match her teenage desires of fulfilling her gothic interests .. LOL... Eh, her mum's cool beans like that :D.

Right now we're still dealing with late night feedings and multiple diapers, but now to add to the list is the joy (not! I don't like seeing my baby cry :() of my poor baby going through gas issues. We've switched her from milk-based formula to soy-based, but now I've read on the American Academy of Pediatrics web site that making the switch doesn't make any difference. At least she seems more comfortable with passing gas though but man, apparently it's really hard for babies to pass gas! I think it has to do with the fact that their intestinal tract is still very newly developed and plus, they lie on their backs all the time - needs gravity's help to push everything down the tube.

Still, we march on - and when Jade cries, we comfort as best we can....

My mother has it right when she says that it feels like Jade has always been here.

It's hard to believe that there was a time before her. It's like life before Jade just didn't exist, and nothing really got started until she was born.

At the same time, it's difficult to imagine her ever growing up. I can't see her being anything except what she is right now. A bundle of midnight feedings, messy diaper changes, and odd sleeping hours; a swaddled package that I just love so much.

Jas and I are a tag team. We need to make some real time together soon, though. I don't feel like she and I have connected as much as we might like since we brought the baby home. Let's not forget that she and I are still more than just the caretakers of this child.

Donnie spent some tummy time with Jade this morning before going to work ... :) She's doing pretty good, already trying to lift her head for a few seconds.

My mother-in-law made this awesome wall-hanging for the baby's room.....she's into quilting.

We also got this awesome little toddler kimono from his boss :)

And my college roommate from my CMU days sent me a lovely made baby mat...

Jade is now officially 2 weeks and 2 days old - how fast the time has flown. She'll be 6 weeks old and in day care before we know it, and I'll be back at work (sigh...).

Her doctor's visit went well and she had gained 2 inches! She's now 7 lbs 13 oz and 20 1/4 inches long. The doctor is happy with her progress.

She's now eating about 3 oz per bottle, but we've had to play the guessing game with how often because she'd eat up a whole bottle, then an hour later be hungry again but only eat an oz. So I'm upping it up to 4 oz but stopping when she wants to. It's probably another growth spurt :).

My experience has changed from a sense of surreal anticipation to a joyous pride peppered with sleeplessness and isolation from the world outside. Next week I have to return to work, and I have to remember there is a life outside of these walls. I'm fortunate that I am able to leave when necessary, but Jas can't go anywhere by herself just yet. At least not any further than her feet can carry her.

We've also received a very nice present for Jade from a friend. A Kettler tricycle. Course its' going to be a good while before she can use it.

Jade is one week old :)

So while waiting to be allowed into the OR where I was, Donnie was kept waiting in his scrubs ready to go for about 20 minutes as they prepped and prodded me and poked me.

That's how long it took the anaesthesiologist to get me numbed because he kept setting the needle into my spine a little off...apparently I have a slight curvature. So it took them 4 attempts.... not going to do that any time soon.

In the meantime, Donnie was anxiously waiting outside, and was witness to all the passing nurses and doctors. Eventually the assisting surgeon showed up, and introduced himself. Then he poked his head into the OR and said, "Oh boy, this is going to be a big one."

Mind you, I had my attention diverted but if I had heard that, I would have so shot him an evil evil evil evil look.........

Oh forgot to mention, Jade hates dirty diapers. The minute she has a dirty diaper, she's yelling to let everyone know about it :P.

Then she yells some more because she doesn't like being messed with when you're trying to change her diaper. The irony of it... :P
