Is it May yet....

...so my husband asks me today. No... but man where did March go??

I guess time to summarize what's been going on:

1) I turned 27. Woop. De. Doo.
2) We got a new puppy Fonzie/Fonz/Fonzy/The Puppy....

But then 4 days later, he got REAL sick with a fever (107 degrees!!) and we had to rush him to the vet. Got meds, and he got better. Then a week later, he had a fever (AGAIN) and we rushed him to the vet (AGAIN). MORE meds, and now he's running around like he should be. Keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow night - for some odd reason, the fever always seems to keep coming back on Fridays.

3) Work is the same. Got really mad with someone at work. :( What happened to business ethics? Sheesh....

4) Having a blast being a Costco member - we got these wicked kites last night (actually I did - hubby not too fond of shopping) and we're gonna go try them out tonight at the nearby park. One's a turtle (that's a story for another day) and the other is a cool dragon (MINE! MINE!).

5) Having a house is nice. Had our first guest last night - my mom came down from Michigan and stayed with us. She kept saying she's proud of her daughter because she has a house :). Oh, and she's proud of my hubbie too.

6) BACA season, as I like to call it, is gonna get busy. By the way, if you're in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in April, we have a fund raiser coming up! Please do come!

On a better note....

It was my birthday yesterday... I am 27.

27 - all it means is that I'm closer to 30 than ever before. Not like 21, which meant I could drink in public legally now. Not like 18 which meant I was entering adulthood. Not like 16 which meant I was getting closer to adulthood (??).

Just .... 27.

I got some neat bling though, my hubbie is so nice :).

And oh yeah we got a dog. Haha.. on my birthday. I guess that was sort of a pressie. :P

Update:

It will be 2 weeks......

March 10th 2006- It will be 2 full weeks since that dreadful day we got the phone call - "Rowyn's in the hospital - she had an accident!"

My niece/goddaughter, Rowyn Rae Clark, was rushed to Dallas Cook's Children Hospital, unconcious and unaware of what had happened. The baby sitter had called 911, saying that a vacuum cleaner and a rocking chair had fallen on top of her, knocking her unconcious. She was rushed to the hospital in Mesquite, and then Careflite'd over to Cook's.

By the time we got there, her parents, grandparents and parent's close friends had gathered, confused and scared, worried for her life. Her brain had swelled so much, they had to bleed the brain in hopes of easing the pressure. There were no clear answers, no reason why something so drastic had to happen to an 18-month-old baby. Tears were shed, hearts torn. All we could do was wait.

At some point during the late hours of the night, we got news that the baby sitter, who had fled the scene once the paramedics had arrived to see the baby, had been apprehended and confessed to shaking the baby. Finally we had an answer, along with anger and frustration. Why??

The night moved on, we went home to get some rest, and then in the morning, my husband, Rowyn's uncle went back to the hospital to support his brother. By the afternoon I got the phone call - "She's gone." My heart broke again, and I wept without hesitation for Rowyn.

Her organs were donated, her remains cremated. At the memorial service, we cried more, though we felt like we had cried more than enough. An angel was taken from us, without reason and without warning.
All I can say now is I will continue to fight the fight I joined BACA for, to fight child abuse. To my niece/goddaughter, Rowyn: I'm sorry I couldn't save you with all the love we gave, we love you still and always remember you.
